      Alisa,

      The plan is ggnerally to rejigg the grades every 1-2 weeks for two thirds of the season. This keeps the comp extremely even (our games are FAR closer than any comparable weeknight sporting competion), it also means I have the flexibility to give teams specifiec timeslots on a one off basus. But obviously this has downsides, especially for shift workers

      Anyway the point is taken (a couple of others have said the same thing) so we may change the regrading interval to every 3-4 weeks. This will reduce the issue substantially but I can’t eliminate it completely as I don´t want to end up like other comps where 20-30% of teams aren´t competitive in the grade they are in and end up discouraged and not enjoying the experience.

    Are you able to set up a facebook group or a way to contact other players if we need fill ins? It would be nice to easily reach out to other people in the competition when we need some extra players 🙂

      We thought about that but decided against it. Hopefully you are aware (but maybe not) that we usually have heaps of players looking to join teams, so if teams are running low they are better off emailing us to ask for extra team members and we shall send some through.

      We emphasis participation, teamwork, and getting people involved. From experience elsewhere having a fill in group undermines this as it is the same people filling in over and over again.

  6. This is a late ‘second’ to a comment from five years ago. “Are you able to set up a Facebook group or a way to contact other players if we need fill ins?” This is one of the most difficult aspects of running a team.

      We decided against it. We usually have players looking to join teams, so if teams are running low they are better off emailing us to ask for extra team members and we shall send some through.

  10. There needs to be more transparency around the finals structure and the timing of when grading is completed. The finals structure needs a big re think. Disappointly, division 1 ‘Losers’ dropped down to division 2 and subsequently the results were very one sided (The Grand Final reflected this very poor structure). Why are Div 1 team getting a ‘second chance’. Did 2 ‘Losers’ don’t drop down a grade when they lose a semi. It is unfair and does not provide a good incentive for Div 2 teams throughout the season knowing they will eventually get beaten by a div 1 team in the finals run. It favours Div 1 way too much. Half way through the season grading and the finals format should be finalised and made public.
    Also, marked fields have surely got to be a non negotiable. We pay to play at a venue and therefore expect the venue to be provided/set-up to a standard to facilitate the match. Rope and cones doesn’t cut it. It seems to be just a Winter venue issue but consistent with previous years.

      There are several issues here

      Communication the finals formats
      The fact that the finals format in A/B grade was not explained properly is 100% my fault. This season I prioritised improving the software over explaining it. But in this instance it will fix itself as the software now self documents the finals structure

      The format used in A and B grade
      A grade was set after the half way through the season. 4 teams were in the grade and there were no semis just a grand final. So our view was teams finishing 3rd and 4th deserved a chance at b grade finals

      Noting only the B grade grand final was one sided. B grade semis were 6-3, 7-5 and one of the teams that dropped down lost. Finals in other grades were all very close (two gfs were draws).

      We’ve used this approach for 4 years for mixed Wednesdays. I like it as it keeps everyone in the hunt for something the whole season. But it is unusual and we will review it

      Fields markings etc
      Field issues were because the ovals were rotated due to rain and not always marked by the council after the move (we are not allowed to mark the fields). We found it frustrating too, but our approach (which we are proud of) is to ensure every game goes ahead which necessitates makeshift fields. We managed 13-14 games for every team, far higher than anywhere else were 9-10 game seasons over Winter are typical
